King of Casuals | Thom Krom

German-born designer, Thomas Kromik's label Thom Krom's premium tees and sweatshirts had me taking notice from the moment I saw them.

I wondered how long the king of the laidback and relaxed could sustain this cool casuals message, and I've gotten my answer from his F/W 2011 collection, which includes slick hoodies/sweatshirts, tees, and we see him expanding into button down coats, which in his hands is handled with care. His entire aesthetic is about stepped-up basics, that don't need to overstand.

Timo Weiland Men's Fall 2011

NEW YORK — Timo Weiland's Men's Fall 2011 collection was presented at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week, and Mr. Weiland and his design partner, Alan Eckstein didn't disappoint. While there was plenty of the colonial India meets British expat inspiration in the women's collection, the menswear was more British expat in India, and it made for a perfect balance.

The collection was filled with clean lines that are perfect for those who needed more than basics, because Weiland's label doesn't do basics. What they do make is beautifully tailored wool peacoats, plaid blazers, and colour-blocked sweaters. These are essentials for any man who needs for his clothes to kill two birds with one needle. Made for Carrying | Commune de Paris 1871

I know I'm not suppose to covet things made for men, but these bags are so simple, chic, and usable that I can't resist lusting after them. They're from the S/S 2011 collection of Paris-based Commune de Paris — a shop I peruse for the men in my life. And, while I'm not saying the best reasons to carry these weekenders should be based solely on my liking. They should be given a second look, as I know the fellas are all about what you need, rather than what you want, right?

Discover | JENZGENAU

Berlin-based emerging menswear label, JENZGENAU loves to keep it simple yet elegant. They also like highlighting the foundations of menswear. They take the tried and true silhouettes and pump life into them, by choosing the right materials, accented by perfect hues. But it's the sharp tailoring that keeps you coming back for more. Thie expertise in mixing the classics with a modern twist can be seen throughout their AW10 collection. They also have a nice handle on menswear accessories. Showcasing | A.D. DEERTZ F/W 2010/11

I've been a long time supporter of A.D. DEERTZ on here. They always bring a few unexpected elements to the menwears game. And while I liked their SS10 collection, I'm loving their FW10/11 collection. Not many emerging menswear brands can progress past what they become known for, but A.D.DEERTZ, doesn't have that problem. They keep me wanting more when they present, burgandy and gray pants styled with a cropped leather jacket, a cardigan, or a blazer — in expected hues. This collection shows them progresssing nicely into the land of the well known. Checkout what I'm trying to get into my closet below.

The ButterflySoulfire Collection

Berlin-based label ButterflySoulFire by design duo Maria Thomas and Thoas Lindner is a favorite of mines that I just can't get enough of. Their interpretation of art through fashion is what keeps me believing that there are plenty of emerging and indie designers still pushing that perverbial fashion envelope. I picked some of their freshest pieces from their AW10 collection.

Showroom Visit | Walter Van Beirendonck Spring 2011

I recently visited the showroom of Belgian-based designer, Walter Van Beirendonck, who is known as one of the Antwerp Six. Presently he's the director of fashion at his Alma mater, The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. For his Spring 2011 collection, Beirendonck conveys his view on current affairs. Floral and plaid fill the collection of military style jumpsuits, blazers, and cargo shorts. Words like faith, love and hope in 3D, were a consistent theme throughout the collection, which was Beirendonck's attempt to counteract all the despair in the world. Which also included fun accessories, like a robot backpack and futuristic eye wear, all of which show Beirendonck's versatility and his ability to blend cohesive ideas.

Heavy Hues | Perry Ellis Spring 2011

Perry Ellis offered-up some heavy hues for men in their SS11 collection. But will we wear it? We've been rocking-out to pink for a minute, but can we throw on some coral and tropical plaid? I think we can. But, no worries if you're the less adventurous of the style bunch. It wasn't an all out sorbet fest. A lot of Ellis' core collection was grounded in neutrals, that came in pleated shorts, chambray, wool, cotton, and linen, with a nice piped gingham blazer thrown in for the die-hards. But it was the double-breasted jackets paired with shorts that stole the show for me. Simon Spurr Spring 2011

I've always liked Simon Spurr's collections because they're decidedly luxurious without apologies. Spurr caters to a man who need just as many suits as he does casual flair in his wardrobe. For his Spring 2011 collection there were perfectly tailored blazers, safari woven-thread, and loads of fashionable coats and jackets throughout. But it was his more casual pieces that caught my attention, thus why the focus is on the outwear here at HeBreathes.I love that you can go from the office to a night on the town, ensuring the Spurr man remains on style point.

Tim Hamilton Redux Men's S/S 2011

On Friday I was floating from room to room, having viewed the Costello Tagliapietra show at Milk Studios, and doing double duty for Goldie, who injured his ankle right before fashion week began. But I didn't mind, because one of my favourite menswear labels, Tim Hamilton's Redux line was a pleasure to explore. The S/S 2011 collection drew inspiration from the northeastern grunge scene in America. The collection was filled with cropped tunic shapes and jersey tees paired with narrow-legged trousers, in faded colours and beautiful blacks, greys, and oatmeal, alongside the Tim Hamilton classic stripes, which combined with the aforementioned made for a nice mix of wearables.
